I think it’s really encouraging to see that more Brits than ever are choosing to go on staycations. More Brits are choosing to have their holidays in their home country instead of forking out for expensive foreign holidays. It’s clear to see why so many people want to explore their home country, as Britain really has lots to see and do. With that in mind, read on for the top cities in the UK you should visit.
London
With over 17 million visitors in 2014, London is wildly popular and it’s clear to see why. This sprawling city is a hub of culture, history and entertainment, with a host of iconic and world-famous attractions to see and explore. My personal favourite is the London Eye, which offers stunning panoramic views of a city that’s always abuzz.
Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Newcastle-upon-Tyne is known for its lively and vibrant nightlife, but it’s also home to its fair share of cultural and historical sights. Some of the city’s most popular attractions include the Tyne Bridge, one of seven bridges across the River Tyne, and the St James’ Park football stadium.

There’s always plenty going on at Edinburgh, a city that’s always buzzing with activity. As well as being a centre of arts, culture and history, this Scottish city hosts the renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest international arts festival, which attracts people from all over the world.
Manchester
Though Manchester’s a modern city in every sense of the word, it proudly retains its rich and colourful heritage and culture for all to see. One of my favourite attractions here is the Manchester Arena, the largest indoor venue in the UK, which plays host to many of the top names in entertainment.
Glasgow
Glasgow is a vibrant city with a thriving music scene and is highly regarded, having been voted the world’s friendliest city. It’s the largest city in Scotland, offering an exciting range of attractions, and is edgy in character. Historical buildings house stylish bars, restaurants, clubs, galleries, shops and more.
Liverpool
Most people know Liverpool as being the home of the Beatles and while you’ll find plenty of Beatles-related things to do, this city also has more galleries and museums than anywhere in the UK apart from London. Friendly and lively with plenty to see and do, Liverpool is one of my personal favourites.
Blackpool

Blackpool is another personal favourite of mine because it’s right on the coast and isn’t as modern as other cities, so it’s very different in appearance and character. There’s a lot to do here, from the exciting rides at the Pleasure Beach to the iconic Blackpool Tower. There are also plenty of casinos here; click here to play at a casino online to get a feel for casino games.
If you’re unsure about your next holiday destination, why not explore cities closer to home? Each of the cities I’ve listed has its own distinctive character, along with lots to see and do. Overseas places are definitely worth exploring, but so are UK cities, so if you’re considering a staycation at a UK city, you’re spoiled for choice!
